Axle Length?
« on: March, 10, 2010, 09:42:25 AM »
Anybody know how long the driver's side axle of the 8" rear in my '66 is?  I need to take apart the rear to fix the leaking seals I have and am concerned that I may not have enough room to the garage wall along side the car to pull the axle out of the housing.   Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

I don't know the exact length but more than 26 inches.

Before tearing apart, measure from center of axle housing to hub to get the general idea.

That's what I did and it's awful close.  That's why I'm looking for an exact measurement.

Put a wheeled floor jack directly under the center section and you'll be able to slide the rear of the car from side to side.
