How to attach a picture to your posts
« on: February, 05, 2010, 06:37:04 AM »
Some people have asked how to attach a picture to their posts, instead of linking to a picture on another site (like photobucket or even the stangfix galleries)

I will attempt to demonstrate this.

The first step you must take is to click the "Additional Options" toggle below the box where you type your message:

Then click on the browse button to search for the file:

To add another file, click the "More attachments" link next to the browse button.  This will give you a new browse button, Showing here:

Now when you click Post, the pictures will show up small, under your typed text.  If you wish these new pictures to show "inline" (as I did with this post), after hititng the "Post" button, view your new post and click the attached images to show them in full size view, then right click to copy the image's location.  Then, modify your post and as per ususal, put that image location in the [ img ] tag.  Like this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://www.stangfix.com/testforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=5258.0;attach=1996;image[/img]
And that's all there is to it!

Please note we have a max-attachments per post limit of 6.

I am a little lost so I am testing.  I am lost after I hit post.  I copied img location but it will only let me paste it under the text then I get this.

I am a little lost so I am testing.  I am lost after I hit post.  I copied img location but it will only let me paste it under the text then I get this.  http://www.stangfix.com/testforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=5258.0;attach=2070;image

you're just pasting the URL into the post, and letting the board software assume it's just a webpage, so it just turns it into a link.

you have to put it between the IMG tags.  Type this instead:
Code: [Select]

[img]URL GOES HERE[/img]

That tells the board software to treat it not as a link, but as an image.

TonyR just PMed me and taught me a little something I didn't know!  After you have posted the pictures to your post once, if you go into the "Edit Post" mode, and uncheck the pictures (again, look under "Additional Options") then the little pictures disappear from under your post, BUT the inline images inbetween the IMG tags will still show up.

Nice! Thanks Tony!
