Drum brake front hubs
« on: December, 08, 2009, 07:36:47 PM »
I should know this, but I can't find it written down anywhere

Front hubs for drums vs disks are different.  Are V-8 drum hubs from 65-73 the same casting with different bearings to fit the small/big spindle, or are there 65-69 hubs and 70-73 hubs?

Thanks Tom

IIRC the drum hubs are the same and you can knock the races out and put in bearings/races to fit the smaller 65-69 spindles or the larger for the '70-'73 spindles.

Tom, I think this is where I got my info.:
http://www.chockostangclassicmustang.com/discbrakefacts.html

either there or:
http://www.mustangsteve.com/cobrabrakes.html

Pretty sure it was one of the brake sellers where I retained that info. from if you want to browse them.

Other than small casting differences, yes the 65-73 drum hubs are dimensionally all the same.  You are correct in writing you can use the correct races/bearings in any year hub for your spindle.

If anybody has any spare drum hub pairs in good condition, I buy them...

Disk hubs are different.
