Bled Shag's brakes today, thanks kbmwrs & JeffTepper
« on: July, 04, 2009, 06:46:55 PM »
Decided to suddenly throw a brake bleeding BBQ party today.  As always my buddies came to my rescue and OMG am I glad
I had their help.

Here I thought I had everything all nice and tight ready for a quick bleed, but nooooooo.   How many leaks could we count 5-6?

We first started on the passenger rear when Jeff yelled "we got a leak up here" (he was manning the MC), while I was under the car and kbmwrs was pumping the pedal.  Fix that leak and then another one, then another one.    I obviously did not properly tighten these 5-6 spots enough.  Had to loosen, tighen, loosen, tighten 3-4 of them.  There was a line leak between the MC and the distribution block.  Distribution block to rear line.  Front driver's banjo bolt with crappy copper washers.  Well, we finally got everything buttoned up, I think.

Spent the rest of the morning and lunch time scarfing down, bbq chicken, flank steak, greek salad & berry pie.

Thanks Jeff & Mike.

Did you by chance stand around and decide on an engine for that car?

Remember, it is tighten lines and THEN add fluid. We know you set up those leaks just to have something for you "crew" to do.

I obviously did not properly tighten these 5-6 spots enough.

Maybe you should have let your daughter or wife do it, since you dont have the strength and all.

Sorry,
Wasn't in the mood to take pics.  Funny the wife also asked about some pics.

I had the same problem when I converted to disc brakes on my car.  Almost every connection I took apart leaked.

Even with the leaks, it is a pleasure to work on a pristinely clean car.  I swear it seems that I end up with cleaner hands than when I started!!! :yikes

Anyway, at the end, the fittings were dry and the pedal was hard so I'd say a successful morning of wrenching on Shag.  The BBQ was quite tasty too!!
