my 66 restomod convertible

stopped by upholstery shop this morning, got on the list for new top. struggled between glass window and plastic, in the end I went with plastic. 2 weeks out on work so now I gotta wait... arg.

2nd alignment done, TIRES DON'T RUB... YEAH! picked it up and drove it maybe 15 miles today... had a squeak think I got that, has a rattle in the front end I need to track that down, but otherwise seems to be doing OK, so far so good. May take a longer trip tomorrow up the interstate to calibrate the speedo and do a little more shake down.

top is scheduled for Oct 15 or so, after that I can finish adjusting the windows, then get the door panels installed.

Congrats glad to hear that you got the rubbing issue resolved.

upholstery shop called this morning, top should be in 1st of next week, I am on their list for probably Thursday to get it installed... woohoo... once that is done I can final align the windows, then get the door panels on. still a couple odds and ends, and a couple gremlins I am chasing down. electronic speedo is acting wonky and won't calibrate, not sure whats up with that yet. Fitech is still learning and hopefully sorting itself out. got a clunk in the right side front end need to try to chase that down. otherwise seems to be doing fairly well.

What brand of top did you get? My experience is Robbins brand is top dog.

i think it may be Robbins but not 100% sure. the upholstery shop ordered it. He said what brand he likes to use but I can't remember. I know it's not Kee. I had him order it in the sun cloth instead of the stock vinyl.

upholstery shop called, they got the top done early. very pleased with it. I love the cloth instead of the vinyl. they were also able to fix a couple issues I had with my back seat cover that apparently the first shop messed up. the left rear window regulator decided to crap out today so now I need to pull back seat back out and replace that... arg.

That looks great.

I need to get my top done soon. It's pretty bad, but I never put it up anyway.

finally figured out my issue with getting the windows adjusted... friend of mine and a friend of his who was an old body man worked on it the other night and figured out the issue. ended up being the window stop that's on the top of the door handle side keeping everything from adjusting properly. not 100% there yet (got to be too late) but very close. Also have a noise over bumps on the right front. jacked the wheel up and was able to rock it top to bottom like the wheel bearing was bad (it's new) so I figured I just missed tightening it up enough... but that wasn't it.... tracked down the play to the lower ball joint for some reason but have not been able to investigate further... I did check it and it's tight, so thinking maybe the new ball joint is bad or something. I may end up replacing the lower ball joint to see if that fixes it.

discovered a clearance issue on my headers and steering linkage. at full lock left or right making contact with the header tubes. not horrible on passenger side, I think a small strategic clearance dent in the header tube will resolve it... much worse contact on the driver side. not sure yet how I will solution. so far the only options I can think of are 1) don't turn the wheel full left or right, 2) put a bigger dent in the left side header for clearance, 3) fab up some kind of steering 'stop' to limit movement, 4) find some shorty headers that might clear everything.

on an old bobber that a buddy and I built a few years ago, we welded on a piece of chain to act as a steering stop on the girder front end ... that worked great on that bike but probably a little crude for the mustang...lol.

Show pics of that clearance issue. Never ran into such on any mustang I've had. The turning radius is big enough on the car without limiting it. I'd try to find a way to avoid doing that.

it'll take me a bit to get a pic I took the car to my dad's house for winter storage since he has more room. remember I have a Borgeson box, so that may be the difference... not sure, maybe there is a little more turning radius with it over stock. the Borgeson feels great but wondering if I should have sprung for an r&p setup…

I have a Borgeson too. I changed the pressure output of the pump for it to lessen the assist and think its great. IMHO I don't think a rack has anything on this set-up although many could be considered worse as they limit the turning radius.

Curious to see where the interference lies as there are possible ways to make changes that wouldn't require breaking out the ball peen.

easiest thing is probably to find a set of headers that clear properly... but my wife is prolly gonna castrate me if I don't stop spending $ on this car soon... million dollar mustang...lol.

what headers are you running?

Hedman Elites right now but their basic set fit too. I wouldn't spend any money just yet. Denting a tube isn't the end of the world and won't really affect the power of your engine.

winter mods done early

wilwood rear disk brakes and eaton tru trac with 3.80s installed yesterday. raining and late yesterday, hopefully get some miles on it this weekend. I wish I could say I did them myself but I would be lying... I could have done the work but I am glad I farmed it out to a mechanic friend of mine because he ran into a few issues that would have had me stumped for a while

still have some minor issues to work thru.
need to play with proportioning valve to get the brake balance right

speedo still not working correctly, swapped out the speed sensor from the 2 wire I got from MDO to a 3 wire from Autometer. speedo not jumping any more, but still not working correctly. speedo needle seems to be tracking with tach now for some reason. verified wiring is correct. wondering if signal bleed thru from the gauge wires being bundled. will separate/insulate and see if that changes anything.

need to tweak the IAC on the fitech, hopefully this weekend. IAC seems to promote more debate than what oil to use...lol.
