Can we start talking about American Graffiti Festival yet?

I'm getting all antsy seeing you all gearing up for Fab Fords. Bummed I can't make it this year so instead I have spent a lot of quality procrastination time planning out my trip up for the American Graffiti Festival.

Who all is usually at this? Any traditions in place? How much tomfoolery should I come prepared for???

(Also, for anyone going back down south afterwards, there's totally a Def Leppard / Poison / Tesla concert in Fresno on the 12th, and I am TOTALLY going to it, just sayin')

OK...Since Kelly wants to talk, here is the link to register: http://www.americangraffitifestival.com/

As in years past, there is the cruise downtown Friday night with the show both Saturday and Sunday. Most of us only go to the show on Saturday, unless you are lucky enough to win an award, and then you are forced to return on Sunday. Last year after the cruise we ended up at my house for a BBQ. I am happy to host again, so I just need to know who will be attending this year. I just registered the boy's car and I even may throw my 67 vert in the show this year, although it pales in comparison to the all the other cars in the StangFix group.

Kelly:

Usually, I'll head over to Mo-town Friday afternoon in time for the parade downtown. After the parade, we typically get together to eat, drink, and shoot the $hit till we get tired. Saturday morning, we get up early, meet up for the caravan into the show field (Muni Golf Course) where we hang out and enjoy the wide variety of nice local cars and visit with folks. On one occasion, I couldn't get away Friday afternoon so I headed over at zero dark thirty Saturday morning to arrive in Mo-town around 6:00 a.m. for breakfast with the locals and then into the show field after 7:00 a.m. Note there were at least a couple thousand valley bugs with wings looking for breakfast around 5:00 a.m., so I spent a fair amount of time cleaning the bug slime off the front of my car once parked in the show!

After the Saturday show, hanging out for a while, maybe dinner, and head back across the Valley by 11:00p.m. arriving home in about 90 minutes. (Much lighter traffic after dark). I usually do not stick around for day 2 of the show.

From memory (and we all know how spotty that can be!!) , typically attendees might include myself, KBMWRS, Crustycurmudgeon, Happystang, Del65 (and a handful of his non-Mustang friends) , KB3, son of KB3, Ed, Don, Larry, maybe Vic, 69Sac, SacBill, and others....

Question! I think that someone gave me this info somewhere before but I can't find it now: what's the situation with rooms? Any place that I should prefer or avoid?

Kelly:
When the Saturday show was at the Community College north of downtown and west of the freeway, we would stay at the Courtyard Marriott on W. Orangeberg just across the freeway from the show. Last time, Del65 graciously let me surf his couch. This year the host hotel south of downtown seems to have mixed reviews online. I'll be looking for a recommendation myself. Hope to have some time this weekend to do that and I will share the results with you.

The La Quinta, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express near the north end of town are clean and safe. They are also close to the Friday night BBQ, my house! The Springhill Suites on Orangeburg is where folks used to stay and is decent as well. The Clarion, while older, is the base of operations for the folks putting on the show.

Holy Crap! I'm late to the party. KB3's hotel suggestions are right on! I would not recommend the Clarion. The two hotels neat KB3 are great and a short drive to the show. The sofa bed at my place is also available and comes with a free garage space.

The Friday night cruise is a great event, I'll be out there at one of the intersections directing traffic. KB3, I plan on bringing my Mach, so your project will have some company. The show is now held at a golf course, so there is more space and hopefully less dust.

The golf course venue is way better than the college campus. Those thinking about it should go. Me....I'll be on the road.

OK...Time to get serious about Graffiti Night. Similar to last year, I was thinking we could do the same plan of attack

Friday, June 9th
  • The early birds can meet at my place anytime during that day. I will be working in the garage getting the car ready for the cruise
  • Check in for the cruise/car show starts at 1pm at the Clarion, a couple miles from my house
  • Cruise starts at 6:30 downtown Modesto. The route has been expanded once again
  • After cruise festivities, back at my house. I will have the BBQ burning and will supply something to BBQ for everyone. I just ask that you bring a side dish to share. BYOB!!

Saturday, June 10th
  • We will need to come up with a meeting spot for the group prior to pulling into the golf course. Gates open at 7 am

I would like a head count of those coming over on Friday night and would like to participate in the BBQ. Let me know who and when and I will send everyone my contact info.

Ken

Hi Ken, I will be there for sure. Please let me know what I can bring. We can meet at the hotel near your house and cruise to the show from there. I don't think we need to meet at my place.
