Memorial Day

Ponyman66

Yak, yak, yak
Lest we forget what today stands for. Please keep our gallant service men and women in your thoughts and prayers. These folks that paid the ultimate price to secure our freedom. Be it in the fields of a fledgling country struggling to secure it's independence, to the battle grounds of Europe or the islands and jungles of the Pacific. These sacrifices continue to be made to this day. No one is immune from the loss of these folks, including us here on Stangfix.

Take a moment today to remember our friend and fellow 'fixer, Maj. Sam Griffith, USMC, who also made the ultimate sacrifice. Semper Fi Sigtauenes.

My Uncle who I never met died in Japan in the late 50's flying a C-119 boxcar. My Great Uncle served under General George Patton and fought the Nazi's through northern Italy, only to come home and discover his girlfriend married another man.

Hats off to all who have served....

Yesterday morning I was thinking about Sam as I put the flag up to commemorate Memorial Day. Reading your post this morning put a smile on my face. Thanks for reminding us that while life goes on, the loss of fine men/women is felt widely.

I have a lighted flagpole in my front yard to honor all who have and continue to serve. It is flying 24/7.

Freedom is not free and I continue to be humbled by those who have and presently serve.

I tired of Memorial day getting hijacked. It is supposed to be for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. On last nights news, new showed a service for the Police and Firemen how had died.

Just chaps my hide.

I posted a separate post on an article about Sam that was in our local paper
Take a look at what is brother is doing in addition to the bricks that we on

As a veteran and law enforcement officer I can't say I'm necessarily ticked off that the reason for Memorial day seems to have been lost. I do think it's a sad state of affairs. I agree 100% though John that it is intended to honor those service men and women that gave their all, no one else. I'd be surprised if firefighters didn't have a similar memorial day for their fallen. I do know that law enforcement has their own and it was just this past month.

Vinny I meant to thank you for your post. It was a great story and I'm so happy and proud of what Sam's brother has done. Not only in regards to the memorial, but also with how he has used Sam as inspiration to chart his future.

I didn't get to attend the ceremony for the dedication. I was so happy to receive the pictures you had shared. I just wish I had known about the events this past weekend as I would have most likely have driven up. Thanks again though!
