Generic help on grommets, strain reliefs

Looking for suggestions for protecting wires/harnesses going thorough metal partitions,
bulkheads and firewalls. I CAN'T DISSASSEMBLE the harnesses/wires, etc. to slide a
grommet on.... I would be basically changing the rotation of the earth trying to do that.
Some of these "pass through" locations have wires that are 2 conductor, some are 3
conductor....... wires are maybe 18 or 16 gauge at the max or so.
Any ideas for doing this? I thought about slicing grommets, wrapping around the wire/
harnesses and shoving them in the holes. Anything more elegant you can come up
with greatly appreciated.

This situation brought on by someone who created the harnesses, installed them but
used no protection where wires/harnesses go through metal holes.....

They make items called split grommets which are designed for what you want to do. depending on how they are used they can be sufficient to the task. Some are better than others judging by the pics I saw when I Googled it. Simply slicing a standard grommet on side doesn't seem the best approach. I suppose if the grommet were properly sized to the hole diameter and material thickness and you also didn't try to "over-stuff" the volume of wires through it would work. I like the ones that clasp closed much better.

And for the record, you could dissemble the wiring and do it all correctly...you just don't want to. Not saying it's the wrong decision just pointing out the obvious!

Yeah. Fortunately there's only around 4 locations I need to address. I really, really don't want to disassemble stuff AND I don't know that I'd be able to even get some of the connectors and terminals and whatnot through the center of the grommets. I should probably make the shop redo this apparently
overlooked detail. Kinda ticks me off.....

When forced to add wires to an existing grommet, I use a stiff wire (butt-spliced to the wire of interest) and snake it through the bundle of wires. An alternative method for adding a grommet is to cut the wires, snake the wires through the grommet, and then splice the wires back in.

If you paid someone to do wiring on your car and they routed wires through metal without grommets...yeah, take it back and tell them to do it right. Wires run through holes in sheetmetal without protection WILL be an issue. And i would be very clear with them that you would not accept the cutting and spicing of wires, to make their job easier. This is why I HATE the very idea of letting anyone work on my stuff.
