Cancer Sucks!

Well, that didn't go as planned. After they took some blood and tested it, they found my platelets to be too low for another round of chemo. I get another week off and we'll try again next Wednesday! I did get some good news though, the CEA tumor marker is now at 5.9

wow, I stay away from here for a while and you go and get cancer..., that does suck. I hate cancer, it has effected so many.
Not sure what to say my friend, I have already shaved my head for another friend who is going thru chemo but I will keep it shaved in thinking of you too. Keeping you in my prayers.

No need to keep it shaved for me. Losing my hair is the ONE side effect I've not experienced! After 3 months of chemo, the doc says I probably will keep my hair. I do have it cut short just in case though ;-)

as if we all didn't already want Mark to get better, we now have more reasons to pray for Mark!

(barfing my ass off)

Well....another week has gone by and my platelet count is still too low to do the chemo. The doc is checking for any problems and if not higher by next Wednesday, they will check my bone marrow. I don't mind feeling good, but this keeps pushing the surgery out more and more.

All the other numbers are looking better. At least that's a positive thing!

Today was another day to try and get the next round of chemo going. All of my numbers were good and my platelet count was up to 110,000 from 65,000. Doc said "go with throttle up" and we did! He also added a unit of Avastan which is a booster to the IV treatment. It helps the Oxaliplatin by targeting just the cancer cells. Back up to 3 Xeloda pills in the am and 3 at dinner. We'll see how it goes and can reduce the pill intake if needed.
The next round will start on Dec 23rd. They'll check the CEA marker again at that time. Still looking good for a February date for surgery.

I was at the office from 8:30am till 4:30pm today. Got a LOT of the Wright Brothers book read today! Sure hope I can find another that is so riveting! Oh yeah, we woke up to a couple inches of snow today too. Not that they were CALLING for any snow. Man made climate change my ass. Can't even get the day's forecast right.

Yeah, sounds like all is in the green and you can move forward again. Is the Wright Bros. book by David McCullough? Climate change is a joke isn't it? First it was planet warming, but oops it's actually been cooling for the better part of two decades, so now lets just call it "change" so we can have a faceless foe to fight, instead of Isis. Anyway, good news about the chemo.

Potential surgery? Did I miss something in an earlier post?
I haven't read the McCullough book, but I surely enjoyed Tom Crouch's The Bishop's Boys. The Wright brothers did some amazing system engineering before that type of engineering was even mentioned.

Ummm...apparently.
" If they do the surgery all at once (colon and liver) it'll be a few weeks to recover. I'll get some extra time off to fully heal and then back on the chemo to make sure it's all gone."

Glad someone is paying attention!
