Hot Rod Power Tour 2015 Announced

Alright, I really need to get my car done. Couldn't ask for a better route for me to join in. Only problem is getting off in June.

Well, my car should be ready to roll long enough before this to get the shakedown testing completed. Couldn't ask for a better route in my case. Basically starts near home and ends up where I picked up my car (in project form) lo these many years ago. Be kind of a Phoenix situation to return to the Bayou.

We could manage quite a Fix caravan if enough regulars wanted to make at least the initial part of the journey. I assume Craig, and likely Larry, would drive in to do the full haul, add in Pat, myself, maybe Sgt. Jr (Mark) could join in and even Suzy could pedal over from IA in his now street driven classic. I'm sure there are more but those jump to mind.

We need to get our butts in gear, Pat, and get our rides road worthy!

That would be awesome.

I just received all the new fuel lines and fittings last week. Going to start running that soon. Then I can fire the engine up.

I'm in for thew long haul!

Well have to me up sometime.

Got all my Hotels Booked. They are sure filling up quick.

Coleman in and has hotels booked also. I do not think he is driving a Mustang this year though. I will not either, I think we will be driving the 59 F100 Truck.

John, glad to hear you and Julie will be joining the cruise, missed you last year.
I'm in also, all booked, registered and ready to go, cars not, but I am.
In the process of installing the Holley EFI and sub-frame connectors, it will be ready to go.

Here are the cities from the link by John. I'm guessing June 11 will be either Mobile, Gulfport or N.O. Gulfport has Crusin' the Coast every year so they have parking room for sure. I'd like to say my car will be ready but I've made that wish for a couple years, we'll see. If it is I could pick up in Memphis or Birmingham and have family in BR and N.O. so that would save me some hotels on the way back:
What are the HOT ROD Power Tour dates and cities for 2015?
June 6 – Alliant Energy Center, Madison, Wisconsin
June 7 – Parkland College, Champaign, Illinois
June 8 – Gateway Motorsports Park, Madison, Illinois (St. Louis)
June 9 – Memphis International Raceway, Memphis, Tennessee
June 10 – Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, Hoover / Birmingham, Alabama
June 11 - TBD
June 12 – Lamar Dixon Expo Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
June 13 – Lamar Dixon Expo Center – LONG HAULERS ONLY*
*Saturday, June 13th, is not open to the general public. The venue will only open for the Hot Rod Power Tour Long Hauler ceremony.

The TBD day is suppose to be Biloxi, they say they're working on the contract, so it could be any of those cities.
Hope to see you somewhere in June.

Wow. A midwest/east coast power tour. Who wudda thunk it. I still cant believe (after all these years) that with the car-crazy left coast someone at Hot Rot still doesn't believe there is ANY value in running up the Cali coast/Napa wine country/Oregon coast. Pathetic.

Hope you have fun.

So who do you suppose would make the trek out to the coast to participate in such a route? Do you think anyone say west of the Rockies would show up? As much fun as it might be people like me would have to drive a few extra days in and out to join the fun. Two weeks is a lot to commit to a cruise.

The Power tour typically tries to route through a couple significant regions of the US, drawing drivers from both and also surrounding areas. Each year they move it around to try and make it accessible to cars from new locales. The goal always being to be as inclusive as possible. Not too mention, folks not along the coast typically have short driving seasons and take advantage of such events. Guys living in Cali can (as members here point out ALL the time) hit the road and make such a route as proposed virtually all year long.

Who do I suppose would participate in a west coast power tour? Draw a line from ID/MT boarder straight down. Those people.

I love how some middle/right bow up when you mention power tour out west would be nice.

If they brought PT out here once every 15 years you still think that would be unfair? What could you possibly have against it?

Even SAAC manages to get out here every 5 years or so.

Sorry for thinking it would be nice to be involved without taking 2 weeks+ vacation.

Once in a lifetime.

I have to stand with GrabberOrange on this one. It would be nice if once every 5-10 years they would make a west coast route. For the same reason you state above about the middle part of the country not wanting to drive to the coast is the same reason we don't want to drive to the midwest. Considering the population of the west coast, the number of custom car manufacturers, magazines, etc out here, I would think there would be no problem filling a Power Tour anywhere from New Mexico to Montana and all states west. Heck even Route 66 runs through the southwestern states ending in California. I guess everyone is just afraid of us California people!

Dude. Chill out.

I simply gave an opinion on why they likely select the routes they do. And as far as the people you countered would do a coast tour I do believe that I covered that area in my original post. No offense to anyone but the numbers who might elect to come from Idaho and Montana are likely not quite the numbers from say Texas or select an upper Midwest State or somewhere out East. A Cali coast cruise would be largely Californians and neighboring states.

Don't get angry at me. I don't organize the damn things. Hell, I've never even participated! Why not contact the folks at the magazine and see what they have to say.

should be a good time as always. This year we will attempt a two-car team. My two sons will drive the 99 and Tara and I in the 67. Jerry has been hard at work on a cool bubble top, Larry should be comfortable with EFI, overdrive and AC! Should be cool to see John and Julie in the F100 too.
As far as the East Coast/West Coast thing I can certainly sympathize. We have enjoyed several Long Hauls and one with just a few stops and it is way too much fun. I know if they ever go out West I know that I couldn't go. Personally I am glad we have something like this available for us in the middle of the country. A lot of veteran Power Tour-ers have complained about the tour going basically in the same region year after year. I wouldn't care if it was the same exact route every year if I could keep doing it. Just hanging out in the hotel parking lots, the cool little towns and side stops and out of the way roads, is a blast. It is about the journey and not the destination. I don't have the answers but I suspect that huge area of the country between the Rockies and Cali where nobody lives has a lot to do with why they stay along the East and Midwest. The tour has grown each year in both participants and spectators. The West coast has so much to compete with for the car guys time that I think the attendance would be way down and as we all know, it's about the all mighty dollar.
I'd love to drive along the coast or thru the Rockies but I am not sure me or the carbureted non AC 67 would like going thru the mountains and the desert. Plus I couldn't take that much vacation time just to get there. I am sure that would apply to a huge amount of the current participants. As far as I know, Hot Rod doesn't make the plans anyway. They hire a privet company to manage all that with the sponsors. This year they hired a new company, not sure if we will notice any major changes.
The very first PT went from Cali to Ohio so nothing is impossible.

I should be arriving in Madison, WI around noon on Saturday, looking forward to seeing y'all. Maybe we can all me for dinner!
