image.jpg hey guys long time no see anyways finally had the time to tackle replacing the worn out front suspension on the fb I ran into a problem when it came to removing the uca from the spindle what's the best tool for this.
Any tips would be helpful thanks

a 5 pound hammer and a steady hand.
One hard slamm on the right place will loosen the tierods and joints.

my homemade tool is a turnbuckle (really big one) with two large bolts threaded into each end. I place it between the upper and lower balljoint and then using a wrench, turn to expand until it is tight between the upper and lower balljoint.once it is tight, give the balljoint a good smack with hammer and it will seperate. It may take a few tries. I have attached a pic of a turnbuckle, and in the pic, just replace the eye hooks with large bolts.141f74bc-ceac-4ccc-9f3a-dff91e56e7be_300.jpg .

I can post a pic of it when I get home if you need one. The bolts are really large like 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4". I usually seperate them while still on the car. You can do it off the car, just a little harder to hold, tighten and smack. It will do both upper and lower. I will usually have the nuts on the balljoint, but have them loose . Once the joint pops loose, the nut will keep it from coming out of spindle. Then I expand the turnbuckle more to pop the second joint free. I hope this helps. I got this idea off internet...somewhere.

here's the pics. Bolts are 15/16" on the head and probably 2.5" long. , the turnbuckle is 13/16 and also about 2.5" long ".
Also note, that in my previous post I said to smack the balljoint w/ hammer, you should hit the outside area of the spindle where it goes around the balljoint stud. I hope this helps

That's a very simple idea which makes it very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!, I'm glad you like the idea. Yea it really works well, and I found it easier to pop these joints using it, than just the BFH alone. Also, it's in my junkyard toolbox. It's very handy, cheap, and helped me to scavenge my first Granada disc set up quite a few years ago. I think I discovered it when researching the net to learn about granada conversions. It was part of a list of things to bring/buy for scavenging those parts.

Thanks for all the replies my buddy had two different styles of pitman arm pullers ended up using both one on the uca and one on the lca I replaced the idler arm ucas lcas coil springs shocks and spring perches and put in a new sway bar.
I still need to grease all the fittings and have it aligned. I have a bunch of old parts up for grabs if anyone has a need or use for them I also have a steel UCA drop template if anyone wants it
