65/66 hood scoop

Need a new hood considering the 'R' model hood with scoop but understand there are some poor quality units. Talked to one guy said he had the 'good one' was fibreglass with metal reinforce, next guy says stay away from fibreglass. ?? need to know who makes the quality 66 hood with scoop. Supplier and part number would be helpful.
.
Thanks in advance

Check with your favorite body shop about doing a steel one on yours. I have seen the front and sides cut into the actual hood and sides fitted leaving the rear still attached to the hood. All fitted and welded looked real good and was functional. The owner said it was cheaper than getting a fiberglass hood to fit plus less hassle with painting.

It also works if you can get a trashed hood with the scoop area in good shape. Cut and build accordingly.

I would do one of these instead of the fiberglass route of attaching a fiberglass scoop to a stock hood.

My daughter's 65 has a GT350 hood (steel frame, glass skin). Very happy with it.

I have Johnpro's hood which is a stock hood with a cut out and a scoop. John had the scoop on it when he gave it to me. All I did was cut the hole and attached the scoop with military grade epoxy used to attach dissimilar material.

In the summer it help keep the car cooler, but like John I think I like the stock hood look better.

I do like the idea of forming a scoop from the hood itself.

We have in the works to make all the short hoods for the 65-66 and the 67-68. For now your best bet would to just use the bolt on scoop with your steel hood. We just did one of the Branda hoods with the steel frame and after it was painted you can see every spot where it was glued. The hood was also blocked and primed 3 times.

Can you post a pic of this issue? Not sure I understand how you can see those spots. Are you talking about the top or underside?

This is on the top side. I think the problem it the structural adhesive is just to rigid. Almost all hoods are put together with a foam adhesive so they have some give. This hood is only going to get worst the more it's out in the sun. I can at least say I warned my customer ahead of time.

Rich is right. Use a bolt on scoop on your steel hood. I bought one of the fiberglass over steel frame hoods and set it on my car. I didn't bolt it on. I was surprised at how good it matched the fenders. Then, since the car was my project and not one from a paying customer, I covered the car with a car cover and put it in the corner for about 3 months. When I took the cover off, the hood had warped so bad I could stick a finger under the hood edge near the center of the fender. That happened without any force such as hood hinge springs. Luckily I had saved the box and returned it for a refund. I won't ever buy one again.
