Hey that's looking great! I don't know how I missed this post!

Thanks Dad. This should just about finish the engine bay. Need to dress some welds and thinking about grabbing a qt of metal filler to smooth some of my welds then ready for primer.

awesome work!

Thanks bro, wish I could claim those welds. I still need cut the bottom of the one in the third pic. I did it on the other side and like the angle better.

I hear ya. I was at my buddies shop working on a project and using his welder...OMG gas welders are SOOO MUCH BETTER lol

Door post area completed. It still needs some spot putty, but mud work and all other body work is along way off...

So, with that done, I thought I'd find something else to tear up... and boy did I find it. Making way for new quarters that I'm procrastinating picking up.

Anyhow, thought I'd start by replacing the trunk drop off area (or getting it mocked in place) which meant getting the inner wheel well out of the way.

This lead to some ugly discoveries... but with what I found on the front of the car, I wasn't surprised. However, it did raise some questions of what the area is suppose to look like.

There was tin and pop rivets in this area. What I'm thinking is mocking everything into place and then making a template of the floor and fabbing it up... Sound good?

Also, I had planned just to replace the front and rear corners of the inner wheel house, but it's pretty ugly.

If you were going to pull the whole inner out from here, you will have to release the inner quarter panel support stuff from the wheel house. How would you brace it in order to accomplish this?

Bill

that's a real predicament. I think before I cut anymore out I would get the replacement sheet metal. Maybe having the part will help you figure out how you need to brace it?....

Found these pics on the web. It doesn't look like they braced anything, but I'm hesitate not to brace it. I don't want to get into the mess I did with the cowl by removing too much.

What do you guys think??? Advice?

Craig, I have all the sheetmetal already minus the quarters in the garage.

Bill

Bill, don't take my word as gospel but from my experiance I wouldn't cut out the whole inner wheelwell. My buddies 65 we didn't have much choice and it was a real pain. On my coupe, I left the inner (basically) and then replaced only the sections that were real bad. This kept the structure in place and was a LOT easier. I know the idea of a nice clean part is great but after what you did with the cowl, this will be a cake walk

That's what I thought, but the inner structure bracing sits right in the way of getting the patch in the rear. It will be hard to weld and then dress around that. The front will be easy enough though.
Bill

if I am following what you're saying, maybe do the front of the inner wheel house first. Get the floor and wheelhouse all tidy before you dig into the rear half. The front will support it so you can cut away as much as you need...

on the coupe the structure is pretty much in the center of the wheel house. I think you are referring to the panel that goes across the rear dividing the trunk?

I'm talking about the inner structure panel that attaches across the hump from front to rear.

Bill

Bill"
you mean the floor?
