Corvair back in my wrenching life

Congrats... I got mine almost 3 years ago. Only occasionally get to work on it, but you are right super easy to work on. Rebuilt the front end, added a dual master, quick steering box, front disc conversion, new floors, lower windshield frame, dyed the interior, Camaro bucket seats... Need to replace the passenger side door skin and rebuild the lower portion of the same door. Then hopefully finish body work for paint. Mine is just a base 500, but came with all the parts from a 140, 4 speed Corsa. Keeping the good running 110 in it, but swapping out the powerglide for the 4 speed and 3:55 posi. Fun little driver.

Nice!

I grew up with Corvairs. My parents had a 62 Monza station wagon, in which I rode on top of the engine cover from CA to South Dakota. I also learned to drive a stick n auto crossed a 66 Monza. The guy who owned it, also had a Greenbrier van that had a gasoline heater in it that would melt your shoes. Many years later, I got it the wagon traded to my neighbor for bodywork on my Mustang. My neighbor dropped a 140 n a 4 speed in it, painted it Turquoise with a white top, with aqua interior. That car is still running in AZ and is gorgeous.

After close inspection of my vert, I may employ a sharp CAD engineer to design new running boards including subframe structure.

I'm sure you already know of Clarks Corvair... I've been using them for most everything. For interior parts, they make all their upholstery in house. Had a tour of their facility last year and was quite impressed with their operation. If you ever get to Massachusetts, you should check them out in person. They do have rocker panels. and suspect you are going to need the lower windshield panel. http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog.cgi?function=goto&catalog=MAIN&section=MAIN&page=193

What's your plan? to build another autocross car or just a driver? I think once I'm done with the mechanicals, I'd like to take it to a local autocross. So far I've installed adjustable front shocks and reworked the lower control arms so I could install Chrysler screw in ball joints which lowered the front end a bit. For the rear, starting with a lower control arm relocation bracket and nylon bushings or hiem joints. Will do this when the 4 speed posi gets swapped in.

Thanks. I have known of Clark’s for over 40 years. My plan is to make it a touring car.

More to come

My friend's 62, I also lined him up with a 67 vert but can't find a pic at the moment.
