FINALLY found it

If you have been around a while and were paying attention you might remember I have been searching for quite a long time for a certain type of vehicle for my next project. After what must now have been a years long quest I am happy to report I found and bought it. My youngest and I flew out west to pick it up from its desert home and hauled it back this weekend with a U-Haul rig.

So let's make a game out of this. Like Mike has done with his Barrett Jackson pics let's see who can identify my new toy. Going to try and make this tough since some here should already have a good idea of what I bought.

Here's the first pic/clue.

I know you were looking for and old Ford pickup or a ranchero.

I'll guess 1950 Ford pickup

And {.} wins and ends the game. FYI, he cheated.

1952 Ford F1

I will post up more pics and info along with the story later in a dedicated thread. Just know the long search and wait were well worth it. Got a real gem. Western truck it's whole life. Built in CA. Well documented with a cool history. Looks like I am just the third owner.

Nice !! All the hard work is done !
For the most part you're right. The body parts you don't see are not painted yet but have been mock assembled and fitted. I will do it again to see for myself but judging by the quality work done so far I expect to have very little body work/massaging to do. The ORIGINAL 239 CID Flathead V8 has been rebuilt as has the whole drivetrain, brake and even fuel system. Chassis has been blasted and painted too. Like a wrote, a real gem.

Now I have to decide do I stick with the flathead or swap in my SBF as originally planned. Hmmm....

Why does your son look so dejected? Is he sad you bought a truck?:p:D
He was already dreading the planned drive home, I guess. I wanted to go straight through. Only stopping for gas. 30 hours or so riding shotgun was a bit daunting for him. We ended up doing it in just under 32 with a brief pause to visit the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Park. Almost called it off and stopped to take a nap exiting Texas but the sun started to come up so we pressed on through. Stupid and exhausting but we got home for Easter!

We are going to need many more pics before we can verify {.}'s statement. Always love the old Ford trucks, but I prefer the F100s. Looks like you bought a kit with some assembly required! Maybe you should repaint the fastback to match that mint green.

As for power plants, I would go with a built flathead. I have seen several recently at shows and it is a nice change from all the small block and LS motors you see stuffed under the hoods today. Get some period correct speed parts and you will really have a nice truck.

Looks like a fun project. Just my 2 cents. The crown vic front assembly on my wife's 59 f100 made it a whole lot more fun to drive.

I have to decide my path forward. Intent was to install a "mustang II" front suspension in whatever I found and drop in the other engine I built for the mustang along with the extra T5 I have on hand. Since I scored a truck MUCH nicer than expected and with a rebuilt flathead as well might be changing direction. We all know about me and changes along the path. :p

OK I'm taking side bets who here thinks this truck will see the road by 2028? Looks nice from the one pic but I'm sure it will at least go thru 3 different suspension setups and about 5 different motor/tranny combinations.
Wonder if they'll still be doing the PT by then?
